The Arapahoe Basin Ski Resort area has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1946 when it opened with a single rope tow and a $1.25 daily lift fee. Today, this resort offers the most modern of ski facilities, a long stretch from the days when Army weapons carriers transported excited skiers to the base of the mountain and the village consisted of a small shelter, a ski school, a rental shop, and a lunch counter offering a very limited menu.
Arapahoe’s mountain stands more than 13,000 feet high and its 69 trails range from quite simple to downright difficult. Long gone is that single rope tow, replaced by six modern lifts that take skiers to the top of the mountain. There’s also an adult ski and snowboard school and half and full-day ski camps for kids that include instruction, equipment, and lunch. Don’t miss the highest terrain park in North America, recently renovated and twice the size of the original park.
The Arapahoe Ski Resort also holds regularly scheduled special events like competitions, demonstrations, festivals, and clinics. High Adventure Camps challenge the passionate skier to push themselves above and beyond their limits for some high-flying ski experiences.
There’s plenty of lodging available for all budgets, from economy chain hotels to picturesque lodges to condo, townhouse, and single home rentals, many offering an amazing view of the Colorado Rockies and the Arapahoe Basin Ski Resort area.
